Implants

IMPLANTS

If a tooth has been lost, or extracted, the gap can be replaced with a bridge, denture or implant. Implants are titanium posts that replace your lost natural tooth root. The bone bonds to the implant, making a strong support for a new tooth. Implants are a very comfortable and effective replacement for teeth. They look and feel natural, and allow normal function and confidence to be restored. An implant can be expected to last for a life time and most importantly will stop resorption of the underlying bone, thus solving the significant problem of ill-fitting dentures.

The implant procedure can differ from each person, depending on how many implants are to placed and their position in the mouth. Detailed below is a basic explanation of a simply implant placement. The complete treatment can take many months, therefore a thorough consultation is essential.

An implant starts with a tapered titanium screw, this resembles the missing tooth root. The screw come in various lengths and widths and titanium is a material acceptable by the body (biocompatable). It has the ability to form a bond with bone that is strong enough to support teeth.

Once implant to bone attachment has been achieved, the next stage is to screw a titanium post to the implant. This is where your new tooth (crown) will be attached.

The final stage is to have a porcelain tooth (crown) made. We can match existing shade and your mouth profile to ensure you have a natural appearance. Once placed you can resume normal function, and treat your implant as a normal tooth.
